Beauty And The Bride: Stick, Stain or Crayon?

To kick off our new “Beauty And The Bride”  feature (where we’ll direct you on all things big day-beauty related), we’re focusing on the lips—just like everyone else will be for the most-watched kiss of your life.

You have three main lip color choices: Lipstick, lip stain and a lip crayon. And our favorite is the latter.

Here’s why:

Lipstick isn’t known for its staying powder—especially not through tons of cheek kisses and a meal—and you don’t want to ditch the party to reapply constantly (or end up with any photos where your pout is smeared and faded). Stain, on the other hand, is excellent at sticking around, sometimes too excellent. If you’ll be applying your own makeup for your wedding, a stain can be intimidating. And, there are certain looks you just can’t achieve with lip stain, like an old Hollywood matte red lip.

Lip crayons offer the perfect balance, and you can opt for the full range of shades in either sheer, glossy or matte formulas. Our suggestions? Joe Fresh Beauty Lip Crayon ($6) for sheer, Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24) for  matte, and Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color ($19) for glossy. Pucker up!
