We Found A Wedding Band That Won’t Make You Cringe

Can we tell all you lovelies a not-so-secret secret? We kind of hate most wedding bands. It’s nothing personal, it’s just that the level of cheesiness can be hard to digest…and we’ve heard enough YMCA to last a lifetime. It’s unfortunate too, because having a live band can give a wedding the feel of an exclusive concert, and the energy from actual performers is contagious on the dance floor, which isn’t always true for the energy from one DJ tucked away in a corner.

That’s why we were so excited when we discovered a Vancouver (!) wedding band doing things differently—without causing you to break your budget.

They’re called SideOne and they’re made up by a bevy of talented local musicians who will fill your wedding with not-cheesy covers of songs from sources like the Avett Brothers, Ray Charles, Daft Punk and Naughty By Nature (we told you they were awesome). And, like all great musicians, SideOne knows how to play for the audience, so if you’ve got a mellow crowd that would rather hang out and relax than shake it on the dance floor, they’ll find the right tunes for that too. They can even get you in on the action, setting you up with a vocal coach and practice sessions with the guitarist (or whole band), so you can serenade your sweetheart on the big day.

If you want to check them out before your wedding (and don’t want to go wedding crashing), SideOne is currently in house at the Starlight Casino a couple nights a week.

We’d move fast on booking though. This year is already filling up, and we wouldn’t want you to end up stuck with a band that thinks the “Chicken Dance” is a perfect fit for your bash.
