This Sunday is Earth Day, and while we’ve already given you a heads up on a green wedding show happening this weekend, we thought we’d fill you in on some excellent eco-friendly cosmetics. These products leave out ingredients like parabens, formaldehyde and mineral oil in favor of all natural and organic options, and—this part is crucial—they work just as well as their not-so-green counterparts.
We’ve selected five favorites that are perfectly suited to a wedding day (and to helping the planet).
All-natural oils like argan, sweet almond and grape seed help this bronzer/blush/highlighter combo do more than make skin look good temporarily, in time it’ll give you softer, smoother skin. We don’t need the extra convincing though, the gorgeous healthy radiance we get from the blend of shades has us smitten.
Colour Supplements are a new product at Lush and we love their ability to multi-task. You can blend them with moisturizer to create a dewy tinted moisturizer or wear them straight as foundation or concealer. Because they don’t contain mineral oil, they’re less likely to leave your skin red and bumpy (so you won’ t have to use even more cover up!).
These lipsticks are made right here in Vancouver and are packed with organic ingredients, including organic beeswax and organic jojoba. The all-natural ingredient list doesn’t limit the colour options though, you can go bold with the on-trend neon pink Sassy Ass or bright red Mother Pucker or stay softly hued with the pretty pink Gob Smacked and the next-to-nothing Nudist.
If you’re noticing a trend of dual function products, you’re right, and this shadow/liner is no exception. Most users reach for this little pot of Amazonian clay-containing cream to create a highly pigmented liner (black is the top seller), but we love the matte brown as an all over cream shadow that will stay put all day.
With all eyes on your hands (or, more specifically, your ring finger), you’ll want a manicure on the big day. Instead of picking up a bottle of chemical-containing conventional polish, reach for a Zoya polish. Zoya polishes don’t have the typical toxic ingredients (toluene, camphor, formaldehyde and DBP), and they go on perfectly. Jane is the shade that most people wish their nails were naturally, and it’s already gotten the Martha Stewart Weddings stamp of approval.
