Preowned Wedding Dress Roundup 08/15/12

Hopefully you’re okay with a little name dropping, because today we’re doing designer only for our preowned wedding dress roundup. We’ve even got a celebrity endorsement on one. So, without hesitating, let’s get straight to the runway.

1. Vera Wang Gemma, $4,000/originally $6,700

Queen Vera can do no wrong, and the Gemma is no exception. You’ve got all the classic designer elements: A completely flattering fit, ethereal swishy parts and beading on the train that almost calls to the mind twinkling stars. Yes, it’s still a big investment, but, like we said, it’s Vera. Need a little Hollywood endorsement? It was the basis for the gown Hilary Duff chose for her recent wedding.

2. Lazaro 3052, $2,500 negotiable/original price not listed

We love Lazaro, and this dress may be one of the most old-world glamorous ones we’ve seen. From the glittering beaded bodice—in a simple tank style that tones down any risk of being over-the-top—to the trumpet-shaped satin skirt, it’s classy and elegant and all things wonderful. It’s newly on the market too, the bride got married just last month.

3. Monique Lhuillier Shelby, $2,500 OBO/originally $4,000

It’s not easy to find a discounted never-been-worn Monique Lhuilier, but we managed to source one. One with floral touches that are far from fussy and a sweetheart neckline that will work on anyone. It was purchased as a sample, however, so we’d recommend checking it out in person before you commit.

4. Romona Keveza L853, $3,000/originally $4,000

Romona Keveza dresses almost always feature stunning lace, and on this one it’s a perfect complement to a shape that’s a bit more grown up than most. There’s a gentle v to both the neckline and the back to flatter but stay far from risque. In short, it’s timeless, and you can even try it on since the seller is a very sweet bride who wants to make the buying process as easy as possible.

5. Manuel Mendoza Custom Dress, $800/originally $5,300

This gown is doubly designer: It’s a one-of-a-kind Manuel Mendoza (one of our favorite local designers) and it’s got influences from a Monique Lhuillier design. And while we will say it’s rare we like a Monique Lhuillier-influenced dress more than the actual Lhuillier, this is one of those instances. Plus, it’s one of the best bargains we’ve seen in our searches!

One note: As with anything for sale online, it’s important to buy smart. Use a trusted online money service to pay for your dress (PayPal and are good options) or meet the bride in person—with a friend.
