Last week we delved into eco-friendly wedding planning (and the minds of expert wedding planners Amy and Kamelli of All & Sundry) , and this week we’re lightening our green lean to focus more on general tips for hiring and working with a wedding planner. We hope you’ll find their advice helpful (we definitely did!) and encourage you to head over to the All & Sundry website and blog to see more from this talented twosome.
WiV: Why should a couple hire a wedding planner? Why should they hire a wedding planner with an environmental focus?
A&S: To make a long story short, hiring a wedding planner makes your life easier. We’re there for you in the months and weeks leading up to the event to shoulder the tasks that you can’t fit into your already busy schedule. Your energy should be going into enjoying the important moments of your engagement period and wedding day, and our services are catered to helping you balance your wedding planning with both your personal and professional lives as a couple.
Hiring a planner with an environmental focus is a win for all involved as we don’t put a higher price tag on eco-friendly wedding planning. You get the beautiful, personalized wedding day you’ve been dreaming about, and less waste gets added to the planet. What’s not to love about that?
WiV: How can a couple on a tight budget still work with a wedding planner?
A&S: It is very possible to create an event that is both lovely and personal on a small budget; we’ve done it before, and we’d love to do it again. Having a small budget gives us the opportunity to flex our creative muscle, and our role as wedding planners is to help couples work within their budget in deciding how best to allocate their funds in order to achieve a wedding that is unique, memorable, and reflective of their values and tastes as a couple.
If you have a smaller budget, we’d recommend allocating some of your funds towards hiring a planner for Day-Of-Coordination. Having a planner’s help on the day of your wedding lets you relax and enjoy each moment, without having to worry about whether or not the caterer is on time or if all the guests know where they’re sitting. You’ll find that rates for Day-Of-Coordination are very reasonable, and can be affordably incorporated into most budgets. If your budget is able to stretch a little farther, our À La Carte menu is designed for couples to pick and choose services that interest them, from assistance in coming up with DIY decor projects, to helping manage the guest list, so that you can get the help you need at a price point that you can afford.
WiV: How do you get your inspiration?
A&S: Our inspiration comes from many sources in our everyday lives; in the case of weddings, however, it primarily comes from the couple themselves. When a couple’s personal aesthetic and values align with our ability to create modern and elegant events, the result is a beautiful, thoughtful, and personalized wedding that will hopefully go on to inspire us and others for years to come.
WiV: What trends do you think will be focused on for 2013 weddings?
A: We definitely don’t see the DIY trend going anywhere anytime soon, but we see 2013 as a time to reimagine the DIY wedding in ways that are more glamourous and elegant as opposed to home-spun. We’ve also noticed a move towards using more unconventional venues and choosing themes based on stories and narratives that hold a personal significance for the couple.
