Well, lovely readers, we’re almost two weeks into the new year. How are you doing on your resolutions? While we haven’t followed through on everything—some nights just need a glass of wine—we’ve been keeping up with most of our goals. Like, not getting sucked down the rabbit hole of Pinterest (unless we’re finding really great stuff) and not beating ourselves up if we don’t make it to every bridal show. Speaking of which, are you making plans to attend the It’s My Wedding show this weekend? It’s the Fraser Valley’s chance to shine, and well worth checking out.

Enjoy your lovely links!

Lovely Links For January 4th

New Year's wedding

Don’t you find the start of a new year to be exciting? It’s so full of possibility and the chance at great positive changes. Changes like, for many of you, being engaged. While many people will tell you not to get too caught up in bridal things, we’d like to tell you not to hold back too much either. Planning a wedding is rarely ever as exciting as it is the first few months, and you should enjoy. Bask in it. It’s (hopefully) a once in a lifetime opportunity, and you have every right to enjoy it and go a little overboard.

Now on to this week’s lovely links:

+ There’s a wedding show for Okanagan brides this weekend…

+ …And city outskirt dwellers who don’t want to drive downtown

+ A sweet way to ask your bridesmaids the big question

+ Easy homemade facial recipes from the pros at Blanche Macdonald

Vancouver Wedding Fair 2013

Wedding Fair Vancouver

If your policy on attending wedding shows is “go big or stay home”, Wedding Fair is the one you don’t want to miss. The show, which takes place January 5th and 6th, features more than 150 exhibitors spread out over two floors (and spanning every category). With enough motivation—and maybe a few cups of coffee—you could easily sort out every element of your wedding at this event alone.

The prizes and gifts that will be given away fit the the “go big” theme too, with a total value of more than $250,000. The highlight of those? The $100,000 Dream Wedding giveaway, which allows you to not only cross everything off your wedding to-do list, but to do it for free, and is open to everyone, even brides not attending the show.

Tickets are less than many Vancouver wedding shows at $20 presale and $25 at the door, and you can make your way to the Westin Bayshore on either Saturday or Sunday (there are fashion shows and prize drawings both days).

Lovely Links For November 2nd

Can you believe it’s November already? It seems like we were just saying goodbye to summer. This weekend is the last of the wedding shows for awhile, and while we’ll miss them (until January) we’ll be putting all the great inspiration we gleaned from them to good use here on the site, and that should get us through this cold holiday-free stretch before December rolls around.

On to this week’s lovely links:

+ Check out the cool shoes on this couple!

+ We’d love for someone to snatch this up for their wedding decor

+ Okanagan brides have their own wedding show this Sunday

+ Some epic engagement photos

Creme De La Creme Grand Wedding Showcase

Another day, another wedding show? Sometimes it feels like it during wedding show season, but the Creme De La Creme Grand Wedding Showcase shouldn’t be ignored. For one thing, it’s the last of the big shows before January, and, for another, it’s kind of fabulous.

Every year, Creme De La Creme features opulence and luxury at its finest, and this year is no different with the its Parisian-leaning Le Rêve theme.

You can expect over-the-top floral arrangements (literally, some are bound to be over the top of your head), swanky tastings, and a haute couture fashion show featuring all the big names (think Vera, Monique, Oscar and more). Basically, expect all things romantic, and know that if you’re a bride who wants to feel like a princess on her wedding day, this is the show you want to go to.

The Creme De La Creme Grand Wedding Showcase will take place this Sunday (November 4th) at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. We’d highly recommend, however, that you time your visit to coincide with the fashion show at one o’clock. You can buy tickets for the event for $45 on the website, and spring for VIP tickets that include an additional evening reception for $85 if you’re feeling like a splurge.

Lovely Links For October 19th

Are you of the camp that loves fall (even when it’s rainy and gray) or are you desperately missing summer? Over here we’ve been indulging in our favorite fall activities, like pumpkin-flavored everything, and the height of wedding show season, and we haven’t felt too sad about the departure of sunshine and late evenings. Besides, gray, rainy weather is perfect for staying indoors and planning weddings.

Here are you lovely links for this week:

+ Brock House Wedding Show isn’t the only wedding fun this weekend

+ And there’s one for you Victoria gals too

+ One of the prettiest weddings we’ve ever seen

+ This could mean some big changes at Vancouver weddings

22nd Annual Brock House Wedding Show

The Brock House Wedding Show, now in its 22nd year, is not only the longest running wedding show in our area, it’s one of the most well known (and, in our opinion, one of the very best). And, while it’s definitely got its tried and true components—the fashion show is always one of our favorites—every year DreamGroup Productions, who plans the event, finds some new elements to make it even more interesting than the year before. Lovestruck Bridal Show

There are a flurry of wedding shows taking place this fall, but the Lovestruck Bridal Show on October 14th is the one we’re most excited about. What makes Lovestruck different from other shows? It’s seems like a lot of fun, which isn’t always the case with wedding shows (and we would know).

Complete makeovers—up dos, makeup and manicures—will be available for all guests, there’s a cocktail lounge where a small donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation will earn you a tray of signature cocktails to sample, and you can visit the moodboard gallery, where you can see boards based on current trends and colors alongside a selection of items that can help you achieve the same look at your own wedding. Or, if you don’t see anything you like, you can make your own moodboard with help. When you work up an appetite with all the entertainment, you can stave off starving with appetizers like white truffle scented mushroom strudel, crispy peking duck, and bacon, rosemary and ementhal quiche.  Continue reading

Bling Boutique Bridal Show

Sometimes we just crave swanky. Nothing else will do, no substitutions can be made, and budgets be damned. Lucky for us, the Bling Boutique Bridal Show on October 7th should fulfill the craving nicely.

It’s not just that the upscale wedding show, now in its third year, is being held at the recently renovated Rosewood Hotel Georgia (one of the most sophisticated venues in our lovely city), all the vendors are pretty fabulous too. So you get to peruse beautifully decorated tables that are full of inspiration and enjoy pampering beauty services and perfectly prepared food and drink tastings. Basically, you’ll be checking out the cream of the crop in Vancouver vendors, like Ganache Patisserie, Savoury Chef Foods, Noir Lash Lounge, and Delovely Creative (to name just a few).

Of course, swanky isn’t always the most affordable option, but you can always settle on one splurge vendor or simply pull inspiration from the event itself. Ideas, after all, are free…or only the cost of the event ticket.

Date: Sunday, October 7th
Venue: Rosewood Hotel Georgia
Time: 11 am to 5 pm
Tickets: $30/person and available online here.

Vancouver Wedding And Honeymoon Fall Show 2012

Time flies, doesn’t it? It seems like we were just writing about the Vancouver Wedding and Honeymoon Spring Show, and now the Vancouver Wedding and Honeymoon Fall Show is less than two weeks away. But, while it hasn’t felt like that much time has passed, we’re definitely excited to be attending the biannual show again.

Why? Aside from being a place to get great information on all kinds of wedding day things, there’s just something so fun about a show where you can start figuring out your honeymoon. It’s even fun if you’re not actually getting married, making it the very best show to drag your bridal party along to (don’t be mad if they start planning their next vacations).

This season’s show will take place on September 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and feature three fashions shows (at 12:00, 2:00 and 4:00) and will once again feature a Grand Wedding prize, which you can enter to win right here. You can buy tickets for $20 here.

See you there!
