Pure Magnolia Debuts 2013 Collections

Pure Magnolia Polka Dot Dress

Have you seen the new 2013 collections from Vancouver’s Pure Magnolia? We’ve always been fans of the studio’s flattering, perfectly-detailed dresses, but the new offerings have us even more excited. We can’t wait to see the polka dot dress (pictured above) worked into someone’s very vintage wedding, and the hemp mermaid dress, which somehow looks both glamourous and natural, is too pretty to go unmentioned. You can check out the 2013 Couture collection here, the 2013 Classic collection here, and the 2013 Vintage collection here.

P.S. Did you know that Pure Magnolia also creates beautiful plus-size dresses for Vancouver brides? We’ve always found it frustrating that many designers seem to style for one body shape only and were excited to learn this news!

Preowned Wedding Dress Roundup 11/13/12

{clockwise from top left}

1. Oleg Cassini CWG322, $450/originally $950

We’ve always loved this dress for the way it blends a classic, simple ballgown style with a creative beaded floral detail. It’s also an easier dress to shorten than most.

2. Manuel Mendoza, $1, 700/originally $3,467

Two words: Local designer. Two more words: Convertible skirt. Two final words: cash or email money transfer only (go in person!). Continue reading

Lovely Links For June 15th

{image from the original Father Of The Bride filmĀ }

It’s Father’s Day weekend, dear readers, and we’re so excited to celebrate our dads and all they do. As we were talking about all things weddings and a few things Father’s Day this week, we realized that those of us who have already walked down the aisle felt more emotional about their fathers on the big day than any other day. There’s just something about walking those steps with the first main man in your life and parting at the end to take your place next to the “new guy” that feels so huge and brings to mind so much of what’s led up to that point. In short? Be prepared to be teary eyed.

On a less sentimental note, here are the links we’re loving from around the web this week:

+ UGG now has a wedding collection…for better or worse

+ Fun with feathers

+ Looking for a vegan wedding cake? How about a few of these (including Canadian maple and chocolate hazelnut)?

+ We can’t think of a nicer place to get in wedding shape Continue reading

Pure Magnolia Sample Sale Starts Tomorrow

Vancouver has a budding green wedding scene and Pure Magnolia is at the forefront, designing eco-friendly wedding gowns that are every bit as beautiful as their conventional counterparts. These gowns use stunning reclaimed and vintage fabrics and all-natural materials (think hemp silk and organic cotton sateen) and are made right here in the Lower Mainland.

This week Pure Magnolia is running a three-day sample sale where some of their gorgeous gowns—in sizes two to eight—will be hugely discounted (some by almost 70 percent!). Continue reading

The Grassroots Wedding Fair

You want your wedding to have a big impact…you just don’t want that impact to be on the environment.

Next weekend you can gain a little green knowledge on everything related to Vancouver weddings at The Grassroots Wedding Fair, the most eco-focused Vancouver wedding show we’ve found.

The Grassroots Wedding Fair was created by Shona Dion of Sweet Earth Photographics (one of only a handful of Greener Photography associated photographers in Canada) after she had trouble finding resources to plan her own green-leaning Vancouver wedding. Continue reading
